Cone 10 Studio leases ceramic studio space in our 2200-square-foot facility in south
Austin. Studio members receive a studio key and can use the studio
at all hours.
Firing fees are due monthly in addition to rent. Firing fees are based
on the cubic measurement of the work to be fired. For example, to bisque
and high fire a coffee mug that is 4" x 4" x 3" costs $0.77. Firing sheets are
totalled and put in your work area before the end of the month to be paid in
conjunction with monthly lease.
Studio equipment includes a North Star slab roller and extruder, four Brent
Model C electric wheels, shared sinks, worktables and stools. The glazing area
has multiple high fire glazes for communal use, and a digital scale is available
for mixing personal glazes. Studio glazes are not to be used on work you do
not fire at Cone 10. Bisque and low-temperature firings are done in an electronically-controlled
Skutt electric kiln. An outdoor 35-cubic-foot car kiln is used for reduction
firing to stoneware temperatures (cone 10!). Firings, glaze mixing, studio cleaning
and maintainance are performed by studio owners and personel contracted for
the job. Before using the chemical equipment you must notify the owners. You
must provide all your own chemicals and not use those belonging to the studio.
Our front entrance opens to a small gallery for our resident artists. The gallery
can be open by request, but may often be open on Saturdays when artists are
there, call ahead at 512-440-8485
